Sheriff Mike Dougherty is releasing additional details regarding this morning’s double homicide and officer-involved shooting at a residence on Middle Grave Creek Road.
At approximately 1:40 a.m., Marshall County 911 received a call from the residence with no one speaking on the line. Deputies responded to investigate.
As deputies approached the residence, 25-year-old Cyle B. Fabrizio, of Moundsville, fired a pistol at them. Deputies took cover and attempted to determine where the gunfire was coming from. Fabrizio then appeared in the doorway holding a juvenile female hostage with a pistol to her head.
Faced with an immediate threat to the juvenile’s life, a deputy armed with a rifle fired one shot, striking Fabrizio and stopping the threat. Fabrizio died as a result of the shooting.
Deputies then entered the residence and discovered the bodies of 44-year-old David D. Will and 46-year-old Monica L. Will. Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigative findings indicate that Fabrizio came onto the porch and shot Mrs. Will through a window before kicking in the door and entering the residence. Mr. Will was then shot inside the home.
Investigators have determined that Fabrizio had grievances involving Mr. and Mrs. Will stemming from a past incident and had an interest in their juvenile daughter. Those circumstances remain part of the ongoing investigation.
Both juvenile children who reside at the home are safe and are in the care and custody of family members. Their identities are being withheld to protect their privacy.
“This was a tragic act of violence that has devastated a family and shocked our community,” Sheriff Dougherty said. “Our hearts are with the victims’ children, their family members, and everyone affected by this senseless loss. My Deputy encountered an immediate, life-threatening situation and acted to save the life of a child.”
Based on the information gathered, investigators have determined that this was an isolated incident. There is no ongoing danger to the community related to this incident.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Police continue to investigate the homicides and the officer-involved shooting. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
“We ask our community to keep this family in their thoughts and prayers and to respect the children’s privacy as they begin to face this unimaginable loss,” Sheriff Dougherty said.
