A Safety Message from the Wheeling Police Department:

In anticipation of reaching flood stage (36 feet) on the Ohio River today – please be mindful of High Water on Wheeling Island and in various low-lying areas of Center and South Wheeling should the river reach this height.

A Few Notes:

-Access to Wheeling Island is NOT closed to traffic and is accessible for residents to move items from basements, yards, etc. However, please stay away from the riverbank for safety.

-If flood water reaches a roadway, WPD will work to place cones and signs warning of high water/street closure.

-Do NOT drive through high water on any road.

-If you experience an emergency, always call 9-1-1.

Current Road Closures:

-WV Route 2 / River Road – mudslide

-Fairmont Avenue (Just past Frazier Run Road) -mudslide

-Leatherwood Lane (Linsly School entrance) – water on the road

-Rockpoint Road – Tree across the road on power lines
