Wheeling Park High School Baseball to Host Steve Myers Legacy Game

On April 8th at 5:30, WPHS Baseball will face off against John Marshall on their home field.  This game, however, will have a greater purpose: to honor the life and legacy of the late Steve Myers.

Coach Myers, legendary Park staff and coach, passed away after a brief battle with leukemia last year. The effects were and are profound.  As the community mourns his loss, they have also come together to celebrate his life.

“It’s not just about baseball. It’s about the relationships we build, honoring his life, and how we move forward holding ourselves to his standards,” explains Myers’ friend and current WPHS Head Baseball Coach, Chad Stout.

Senior Captains Miles Gorby, Kolton Whitmire, and Nolan Yanchak echo that the impact Myers had on their lives was profound, and they are thrilled to be playing JMHS, as their coach is also a long time friend of Myers. “He was a great coach and an even better person,” offers Gorby.

The game will donate proceeds to the American Cancer Society and hold several raffle opportunities. In addition, both teams, thanks to Total Sports Connection, will wear orange to represent Leukemia. The Myers Family will be present and honored during the game with the Pine Room Podcast broadcasting live.
