An OPEN LETTER to … Dallas Cowboy C.J. Goodwin …

-

Boom! There’s the dream come true right there.

But the headline shared by WTRF TV-7 – “CJ Goodwin to Sign 2 Year Deal with Cowboys” told only half the story, now didn’t it? There’s much, much more.

For example, you attended Bethany after being graduated from The Linsly School, but to play basketball and not football for the Bisons. You transferred to Fairmont State to keep hooping, and it wasn’t until a football coach saw you playing intramurals that you put a helmet on your head once again.

Another transfer, this time to California University (this time with football on your mind), and then following a pro day you signed with the Steelers. Everyone in the Wheeling area was thrilled, but you? Well, yeah, a chance to play in the NFL is a blessing, but …

That did not happen, though, because of injuries, but then it did with the Atlanta Falcons and YOU EVEN PLAYED IN THE SUPER BOWL! Dream come true, right? Well, again, yeah, and your two big plays in the first half were awesome, but that second-half comeback sure sucked.

After a big bounce-around from team to team, there it was, the star on your helmet. It is the star that long guided your love of the game and for your favorite-of-all-time team. The Dallas Cowboys have always been your family’s favorite team no matter the results because that’s how fandom works.

Real fans are faithful (just ask a Pirates fan), and that’s why when the Steelers, Atlanta, the 49ers, and Cincinnati expressed interest, you still had hope that an 817-area-code number would ring the cell. And finally, it did, now didn’t it?

Your father, Perry, would be proud, not just because of the star on that helmet, but also because you keep coming home to help.

Sincerely,

Steelers Fans Rooting for You (And yes, it’s tough!)
