Dear Founders:
It all made sense, didn’t it? Risking your lives in the name of liberty? Revolting against tyranny and creating a new country in name of freedom?
You signed your own death warrants, too, by eventually putting your name on the Declaration of Independence because you believed in a man’s unalienable right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It may sound corny and old-school to many of today’s citizenry, but those are the same freedoms we exercise today.
It would be interesting, though, to hear your thoughts on how our rights have evolved to include much, much more than existed when Mr. Jefferson put pen to parchment 250 years ago. Considering the political divisions within both parties that exist today – and between them, too – it would be fascinating to understand which legislative directions were intended and which were not.
We are confident, though, you all would be impressed with the country’s collective military strength and insistent fortitude when defending the rights of the United States of America, and we’re positive you would not appreciate how some take those rights for granted while others manipulate and abuse them.
Nonetheless, we must THANK YOU for your DECLARED vision of freedom and for your courage to make it so, and also for your wisdom within the Constitution years later that defined the three branches of government, federal powers, and the amendment process. The Bill of Rights ain’t too bad either.
