ATF’s Chief of Staff to Be Featured Speaker at Wheeling Police Law Enforcement Memorial

-

The Wheeling Police Department will honor and remember local, regional, and national law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice at its 11th annual Law Enforcement Memorial on Monday, May 13.

The event is set for 6 p.m. at Wheeling’s Heritage Port, with a rain location inside WesBanco Arena.

This year’s featured speaker will be Daniel Board, Jr., Chief of Staff for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in Washington, D.C. Mr. Board has served in his current position since December 2021 and serves as the principal advisor to the ATF director, and the daily principal intelligence briefer for the U.S. Deputy Attorney General.

The event also will include ceremonial music by Commander Ricky Manning with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, a formal wreath laying, taps and a 21-gun salute to honor the fallen by WPD’s Honor Guard.

The event coincides with National Police Week (May 12-18), which surrounds May 15, or “National Peace Officer Memorial Day” – a time set aside to pay tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.

Nine Wheeling Police officers have died in the line of duty since the department was formed more than 218 years ago. Last year in the United States, 136 officers lost their lives in the line of duty.
