Martins Ferry Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Accident in Wheeling

Wheeling Police continue to investigate a single-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday evening on WV Route 88/Bethany Pike.

Police were called to Bethany Pike and Warden Run Road around 7:15 p.m. where the driver of a minivan crashed into the embankment on the side of the road and into the run below.

The driver, identified as Hershel Charles Dutton, 68 of Martins Ferry was transported to Wheeling Hospital where he died. There were no other occupants inside the vehicle. WPD’s crash reconstruction unit is continuing to investigate the cause. The road was closed for several hours and reopened around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
