Wheeling Miners Win Home Opener – In Photos by Robert Ovies

The Wheeling Miners won their home opener Saturday evening at Wesbanco Arena, 40-25, over the Jersey Bearcats, and sports photojournalist Robert Ovies capture a lot of the action.

Defensive lineman Colton Ryan was welcomed by an enthusiastic at Wesbanco Arena, and he proved to be one of the Miners’ team leaders.

Defensive back Dontae Mason had a big game for Wheeling as the Miners evened their record to 1-1 on the young season.

Jersey took an early lead in the first half, but the Miners’ steady offense took advantage of opportunities thanks to turnovers.

The Miners pulled away for the win in the fourth quarter and now will travel to Mississippi for Game 3.
