WPD Discovers Male Body Near Shilling Bridge

-

First responders from the city of Wheeling discovered the remains of a male during an investigation this evening in Elm Grove.

According to Philip Stahl, the public information officer for the Wheeling Police Department, the body was discovered in Little Wheeling Creek near the Elm Grove Crossing Mall. Stahl reported that the Ohio County 911 Center received a call at approximately 5 p.m.

“The cause of death and the length of time the body was there are undetermined at this time,” Stahl said this evening. “The remains were not directly under the Shilling Bridge because you could look over the bridge and see the body.”

Stahl said a walker made the phone called to dispatch, and now the remains will be transported to the state crime lab in Charleston. The victim was wearing clothes at the time of his death, but Stahl was uncertain if he was wearing shoes when discovered.

Stahl added that the remains were only partial submerged in the waterway. The span was briefly closed to traffic during the WPD investigation.
