Bridge Street Middle School is doing double duty!

The school is scheduled to have two exciting events that benefit students in one day.

On the morning of March 22nd at 9:45, 5th-grade students from BSMS feeder schools will be joining Bridge Street Middle School’s 7th grade  students to attend a “Middle School Health Expo.”

Seventh-grade teacher and organizer Shawna Safreed states, “Our 7th-grade students have been learning all about research and informative texts and writing. They have prepared presentations on topics such as: puberty, social media safety tips, transitioning to middle school tips, vaping warnings.   5th graders from Middle Creek and Elm Grove Elementary are going to join the 7th grade that morning and walk the gym to learn more about health at the middle school level.”

In addition to this event, from 1-3 in the afternoon, the “Get a Life” program will also be held.  Organized by 7th-grade teacher Stephanie O’Donnell, the “Get a Life” program is “a valuable initiative for promoting financial literacy among students. By providing hands-on experiences with realistic budget scenarios, it equips them with essential skills for managing their finances effectively and problem-solving in real-world situations. It’s crucial to instill these skills early to empower individuals to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.”

O’Donnell adds, “This simulation teaches students the importance of goal setting, wants vs needs, important decision-making skills, and budgeting skills.”

A variety of community members will participate in the “Get a Life” program.
