Juneteenth R&B Brunch: Experience the Rhythm & Flavor

WHEELING, W.Va. – May 19, 2026 –  Wheeling Heritage will host the Juneteenth R&B Brunch: Experience the Rhythm & Flavor on Saturday, June 20, offering an afternoon of music, food, and community celebration.

Guests will enjoy a buffet catered by River City Restaurant featuring favorites such as chicken and waffles, along with an interactive R&B experience hosted by DJ Kaz. The event will include music, games, trivia, prizes, and a lively atmosphere. A cash bar with specialty drinks will also be available.

“We are excited to have the return of the R&B Brunch for Juneteenth weekend. Last year’s event ended up selling out, and we are looking forward to great attendance again this year! Local business owners and artists are already engaged so we can have great prizes to give away to our game players and soulful singers,”  said Riley Carpenter, director of programming of Wheeling Heritage.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wheeling Artisan Center, 1400 Main Street. Tickets are $25 per person, space is limited, and tickets can be purchased online at wheelingheritage.org/juneteenth

Following the brunch, guests are invited to continue the day’s celebration of history and preservation in downtown Wheeling:

At 1:30 p.m., a new interpretive sign will be unveiled on Chapline Street at the corner of Lane 7 near the historic Pythian Building. Sponsored by the Ohio County Public Library, Wheeling Heritage, and a private donor, the sign recognizes Wheeling’s historic African American neighborhood and highlights the significance of community landmarks and leaders, including Lincoln School and its role in education, the Pythian Building as a community gathering space, local businesses such as Doc White’s Pharmacy, and the contributions of community leader Harry H. Jones.

At 2 p.m., attendees may take part in a tour of the historic Pythian Building, which was built in 1928 and served as an important social and cultural center for the African American community.
